Five Steps To Maintain Privacy When Buying Porn Online

Couples Porn Reviews: Jenni helps with insertion

What if people knew you watched porn? What would your boss and co-workers think or say? How would the parents of your children’s friends react?

More than 20 years ago in Saint Louis, Circuit Attorney George Peach led a crusade against the rental of porn from video stores. He demanded that video stores removed pornographic titles from their shelves and threatened prosecution if they failed to comply. Meanwhile, video store owners discussed in private the fact he was renting the very same titles that he wanted removed from the stores. It was a different time with different news cycles and different editorial judgement. The video store owners did not respond to the hypocrisy in force and largely kept their mouths shut. They lost thousands in income from the ban and did not publicize the hypocrisy. Details of his rental history emerged five years later after Peach’s arrest for soliciting sex from an undercover police officer. A long legal career and sixteen years as Circuit Attorney ended with a trial and Peach surrendering his license to practice law. The collapse of his legal career was more to do with soliciting prostitution and financial improprieties than his renting and watching porn.

Porn still provokes an emotional response from a significant segment of society. Your enjoyment of porn alone or as a couple is a private matter. How do you maintain your privacy when buying porn? Here are five steps that I take to maintain my privacy and reduce my footprint. A computer expert could find my electronic trail. Website tracking companies can piece together my electronic trail and identity. I have avoided using Tor or other anonymizing software so far but I re-evaluate that decision frequently.

Start with a garbage email address

Set up an easily orphaned web-based account with a random email address (nothing related to your name) Use Yahoo, Hotmail, Excite or anybody else to get it. Do not link it to your life. If you worry about your email address being sold by a company and being flooded with spam, here is a ready-made trash can it can enter. Make up your porn name. Actors and actresses make up their porn identity. No consumers have the same benefit. Don’t spend hours on it. Colors and seasons work. So do euphemisms. Call yourself Rock Hard or John Smith or use the name of your first boss or eight grade math teacher.

Keep away from Facebook

Recent media stories have documented the relationship between Facebook and other companies jeopardizing your privacy. Forbes described how Neilson audience measurement sends information gathered by video players to Facebook to discern your demographics from the IP address. Your identity is not released yet but who knows what will happen in future changes to privacy policies. If you do not use Facebook, you are a step away from this surveillance.

Get a prepaid debit or credit card

Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or your bank will sell you one. If you want an extra layer of privacy insulation, buy it with cash. Yes, there will be an activation fee of 3 to 5 dollars. There is a cost to privacy today. This is what you will use for buying porn online. I wouldn’t use it for subscription based charges unless you plan on cancelling the membership before the value on the card reaches zero. That isn’t nice or fair to the company.

Set up your browser for private browsing.

Set up your browser for private browsing so it automatically clears the history, cookies, and autocomplete entries. In the movie American Reunion when Jim’s wife complains about trying to go to amazon and it autofills amateurteens.com and twenty other am*** porn sites in the browser. This is what you want to avoid when your wife or child uses your computer. Links for how to set up private browsing sessions on various browsers follow:

Get an external hard drive

Multi-tasking: A little for him and a little for me.

Don’t store your porn on your computer’s hard drive. It will be found, tripped across, and accidentally activated by somebody. Download it straight to the external hard drive. Store the hard drive somewhere out-of-the-way. For porn, work, and regular backups I have several external hard drives tucked here and there and they do not get a second glance. Keep track of which is for what purpose.

Here are links to 1 TB, 2 TB, and 3 TB external USB hard drives at amazon.com:

I hope this primer has been helpful. I do not consider myself a privacy hawk or a conspiracy theorist. I
want to leave a smaller footprint for when I run for Senator.

In my next rant I will discuss how my wife and I transitioned from DVDs to digital in our collection and consumption. What have you done to maintain your privacy?

Have fun and good luck.
